I know you’re all sitting out there saying to yourselves “I REALLY want to attend Snowcial, but my boss will never pay for it.” We get that a lot. While it’s true that Snowcial is part boondoggle (debauchery is just part of Heavenly’s DNA), there are many legitimate business reasons to attend Snowcial. We’ve compiled four for you:

1. Learn to tell your company’s story online – Marketing is no longer about who can create the sharpest ad, it’s about telling your company’s story through social media, video and digital marketing. People don’t want to be marketed to, they want to connect over shared experiences. The companies that make those connections win. Bottom line. With experts from Facebook, GoPro, Edelman, Deloitte, Nestle and many more, you’ll come away understanding the different tools you have to communicate your unique story.

2. Make amazing connections – At Snowcial, you don’t just sit in an auditorium and listen to a speech by a social scientist at Facebook. You get to ski with him. Party with him. Play blackjack with him. Go see G Love & Special Sauce with him. The connections we’ve made through Snowcial are authentic and built to last. One group of Snowcialites ended up doing an Arctic mission together. Another group starting a curling league. And the rest of us are just trying to change the world.

3. Publicize your company to the most connected folks in the industry – Traditionally, beer and liquor companies have been the best at this, like Pabst handing out samples before the company’s CMO gave his speech last year. If there is a crowd that you want your product in front of, this is it. The influence this group has is pretty astonishing.

4. Make you more fun to work with – Snowcial is proven and guaranteed to make you smarter, taller, better looking and more influential. You’ll even smell better after attending Snowcial. Imagine what Digi Dave looked like before he started attending Snowcial. Let me just say that it wasn’t pretty.

If this doesn’t give you sufficient ammo, we’ve even drafted an e-mail you can send to your boss:

Hey, Boss!

That joke you told at the staff meeting earlier today was HI-LARIOUS! Like, SO funny. You are incredibly witty and I tell my (spouse/life partner/significant other/imaginary girlfriend who is suffering from Leukemia/cat/ferret) just about every day how lucky I am to work for you.

ANYwho, with the end of the quarter fast approaching, for the low, low price of ($400 – $1350) I can really give our marketing efforts a boost by attending Tahoe Snowcial. It’s like the Sundance for the Facebook generation. All the biggest players will be there to explain how we tell our story online, delight our customers and crush our competition. We’re going to have to license ourselves as a bank for all the money that will be rollling in!

Even though I’ll come back knowing way more than you, I promise that I’ll use my newfound powers to unite the Republic and Separatists, and not cast the whole thing into darkness (Can you believe that J.J. Abrams has been given the keys to both the Star Trek AND Star Wars franchises? But I digress). Revenue will increase. The CEO will sing your praises. You’ll get promoted. I may even bring you a Snowcial t-shirt.

So what account would you like me to expense this to?

And here’s a sample tweet: Thanks Boss for sending me to @Snowcial! Social media is coursing through my veins! #BestBossEver #WishGranted #EpicWIN

I’m expecting to see you all at Tahoe Snowcial later this month!

Reinforcing its claim as the world’s coolest social media conference, Tahoe Snowcial has announced that Facebook, GoPro and Nestle will speak at this month’s event, rounding out a line-up you’d expect at the top conferences in Austin, New York or San Francisco.

Dean Eckles is social scientist, statistician, and member of the Data Science team at Facebook. He investigates how interactive technologies affect human behavior by mediating, amplifying and directing social influence. Dean is co-editor of Mobile Persuasion: 20 Perspectives on the Future of Behavior Change (2007), and his research appears in proceedings and journals in computer science, marketing, and statistics. Dean holds degrees from Stanford University in philosophy (BA), cognitive science (BS, MS), and statistics (MS), and communication (PhD).

Paul Crandell is vice president of marketing for GoPro, the world’s leading activity image capture company. He has a long history of strategic sports marketing, brand building, athlete development and event ideation for companies like Q Sports Architects, ICON Aircraft and Red Bull.

In her role as brand manager for Nestle, Stephanie Naegeli is responsible for the digital communication, social media and branding for the NESCAFE and NESQUIK product lines.

Eckles, Crandell and Naegeli bring even more learning opportunities to a speaker roster that already includes:
- Tariq M. Shaukat, Caesars Entertainment
- Patrick Harrington, Targeting@WalmartLabs
- Stanley Hainsworth, Tether
- Christopher Steiner, Aisle50
- Ian Swinson, Salesforce.com
- Chris Heuer, Deloitte Digital

Tahoe Snowcial will also feature a performance by Philadelphia alternative hip-hop band G. Love & Special Sauce. With their unique laid-back blues sound and classic R&B grooves, the popular foursome will delight the Snowcial crowd with popular singles such as “Baby’s Got Sauce,” “Cold Beverage” and “Peace, Love and Happiness.”

In addition to two half-day conference sessions, Tahoe Snowcial also offers three days of skiing or snowboarding at Heavenly Mountain Resort, a headline concert at Harrah’s Resort Casino, an Ignite event and a digital film fest. Register now at www.tahoesnowcial.com. The last chance to be included in the specially-priced Snowcial room block at Harveys Lake Tahoe, the official hotel of the event, is February 8, 2013.

Last year was my first year with Heavenly and Tahoe Snowcial. And after four days of speakers, panels, parties and skiing, I’d never felt more excited, exhausted, rejuvenated and ready to put learnings into action back at work.

For those unfamiliar with Snowcial, the event is designed for any and all technology, social media and snowsports enthusiasts looking to increase their knowledge base and connect with other brands.

So this year, we’re upping the ante once again to bring the top minds from the worlds of digital storytelling, snowsports and social media together for the fifth annual Tahoe Snowcial from February 27 – March 2, 2013.

Snowcial is unlike any other conference out there. It’s a winter social media and technology festival that celebrates a common passion for snow and provides attendees with insights from some of the most innovative players in the market today. It’s an event that places as much emphasis on interaction as it does education. Snowcial provides an on- and off-mountain atmosphere where opportunities for personal and professional development flourish.

“Tahoe Snowcial is not a conference where you simply listen to a speech by the co-founder of Foursquare,” said Dave LaPlante, Tahoe Snowcial co-founder and chief marketing officer at Chrysallis. “It’s a conference where you listen to the speech, ski with, go to a concert with and hit the black jack tables with the co-founder of Foursquare.”

Tahoe Snowcial provides unheard of access to keynote speakers and panelists. Past speakers include c-level executives from companies like Google, Klout, Foursquare, Path, Microsoft, eBay, Gowalla, Webtrends, Caesar’s Entertainment, IMG Worldwide and Vail Resorts.

In addition to two half-day conference sessions, Tahoe Snowcial also offers three days of skiing or snowboarding at Heavenly Mountain Resort, a headline concert at Harrah’s Resort Casino, an Ignite event and a digital film fest.

It is the most significant event for connecting the connected snowsports enthusiast.

Hope to connect with you there!

If you have a Foursquare account, you can follow the Snowcial Foursquare list below now, or add some or all of the venues to your To Do list. Then during the event Foursquare can be your go to guide for getting around, finding conference venues and locating places to drink, eat and shake bootie.

Check out the map, follow the list and we look forward to see you at Snowcial!

We could tell you about Young The Giant’s explosive live show, but there’s really no point. We could tell you what it’s like to be in the sticky, sweaty crowd, jumping up and down in perfect unison, but that’s neither here nor there.

There’s just too much to be shared, like how lead singer Sameer Gadhia’s pristine, powerful vocals translate as well live as they do on the band’s self-titled debut album, recorded and tracked completely live with the entire band sitting in a room and playing together, like they always do.

But, don’t take it from us.

Take it from Morrissey, who himself said he’d be kneeling with gratitude on a hardwood floor for many years to come over Young The Giant’s “perfect” record, which the band co-produced with Joe Chicarelli (The White Stripes, My Morning Jacket, The Shins). Or from Incubus, who handselected the band to rile up the crowd as the opening act on their first US tour in three years.

Better yet, take it from their main stage set at Lollapalooza or upcoming performance at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards as the only non-nominated band on the bill— all exciting twists of events that only occurred once bookers, agents and directors saw the group play live, and unquestionably knew they needed to see them again.

Hailing from separate states, countries and continents before meeting 55 minutes south of Los Angeles in Irvine, California as teenagers, their addictive, hooky songs and varietal nationalities oft leave them pegged as “radio friendly” “multi-cultural,” or a small handful of other misdirected monikers that place the five piece’s widely adored sound in a too-tight container.

Even though they collectively left school and multiple academic scholarships behind to pursue their dreams, including Sameer, who was enrolled as Biology/Pre-med at Stanford University, this isn’t a story about five boys who meld together as a French Canadian-Persian-British-Indian-Italian musical melting pot. Nor is it of a group whose alternative rock chart-topping, anthemic explosion of a song “My Body” hits you like a kick in the back of the knee.

It’s about a band that has meticulously written and crafted songs together for three years, lived out of shared bedrooms and messy suitcases for two years, and hopped on and off of planes, buses, vans, cars and their beloved bicycles for over one full year, having played more than 150 shows in the past 365 days.

And, whether they’re playing to a sold-out House of Blues in their hometown or to 15,000 festival attendees in the middle of Indonesia on one of their multiple worldwide tours, they never fail to consistently and constantly resonate. Last May, after Young The Giant performed just two songs on Later…With Jools Holland, their entire UK tour immediately sold out.

They had been in the country for less than six hours.

It’s that dedication, soulful essence and collaborative sensibility coming out on stage when they play their collection of songs that has proven to be, quite simply, impossible to ignore.

From the slightly unnerving tranquility of “Islands” to the captivatingly up-tempo take on the theme of transition in “Apartment,” their music ebbs and flows from innovative refrains to heavyhitting melodic smashes and back again, making their debut effort not only engaging, but entrancing. To date, the band has received innumerable “Band To Watch” accolades from outlets like The New York Times, Spin and Nylon to name a few, and were selected by MTV as both a Push and Freshman 5 artist. And, with “My Body,” the first single off the album which hit #4 on the Modern Rock charts in the U.S. and #1 on the Rock charts in Canada while reaching over 1.3 million YouTube views and “Cough Syrup” just beginning its radio ascent, there’s something undeniably special about this band.

So much so, you may just have to see it to believe it.

The Tahoe Snowcial is back for its fourth big year and this one-of-a-kind festival celebrating the worlds of digital storytelling, technology and snowsports continues to be the premier event for connecting networks, sharing passions and linking turns.

Snowcial 2012 Keynote Speaker

Snowcial has established itself as the event for the connected snowsports enthusiast, attracting Ski.E.O’s like Path‘s Dave Morin, Gowalla‘s Josh Williams, and Vail Resorts‘ Rob Katz, just to name a few. This year, we’re stoked to have Joe Fernandez, the CEO and co-founder of Klout, the social media analytics site that measures a user’s influence across their social network, headlining the keynote speaker line-up. Not only is Joe a leader in social media, but he’s also a South Lake Tahoe native who grew up skiing at Heavenly.

We’ve heard your comments and have expanded the conference into a second day of compelling panels that will investigate a variety of topics on social media and snowsports. But, in true Snowcial tradition, we haven’t forgotten about the skiing, snowboarding, concerts, entertainment and networking opportunities.

If you consider yourself to be a leader in social media, digital marketing, consumer electronics or mobile technology, and have a passion for the snow, this event is not to be missed.
