Lars Ames is the Web Guy for Porters Tahoe, an outdoor retailer in the North Tahoe and Truckee area. He heads up Porter’s web store and their deal-a-day site, TheDamOutlet.com, the Porters Twitter presence , Porters Tahoe on Facebook and most times, he’s the fingers typing behind the live chat on the website. Lars attended Snowcial 2010 and sent in his thoughts this summer about his Snowcial conference experience.
Summer has its tight grip on the Tahoe region with tourist out and about enjoying all the fruits that Tahoe has to offer. Somewhere though, there is small drive for winter to return and bring back another year of Snowcial activities to Heavenly Mountain. I know that I have to sound rather absurd, Tahoe is just as fun in the summer as it is in the winter with possibly more activities to do that you can’t when the snow covers the ground.
Still, 6 months removed from my first Snowcial experience I am using ideas I obtained from it to help improve my own and the company I work for’s expansion in social media. I left the last Snowcial with pages of scribbled notes and ideas that I was excited to return to work and see what I could put to practical use. So why the return to thinking about Snowcial this time of year?
Not that the well is drying up, but besides seeing Hammer in concert and blowing my mind with his own social media knowledge, or David LaPlante dancing to Hammer or even handing Russ Pecoraro one of the worst beats of the night in poker. I miss being involved with an event that so many people were passionate about. There was a great sense of ideas being thrown around and feedback being passed easier than Greg Wright attempting to rush the stage at the Hammer show. Also rumor has it that some social media giants will be in attendance next year to continue the thought provoking conference.
